Canon introduced a new broadcast zoom lens: the Canon CJ20ex5B. This 5.0- 100mm F/1.8-2.95 glass features a B4 lens mount, a built-in 2x extender, and it supports 4K resolution. The Canon CJ20ex5B is the brand’s latest addition to its remote control lenses lineup, called BCTV lenses. These high-quality 4K zoom lenses are made for broadcast cameras with a B4 lens mount and usually “small” 2/3-inch sensors.

The Canon BCTV lineup consists of twelve portable lens options and six box-type lenses. All these zoom lenses feature a built-in 2.0x extender, which doubles their focal length.

Also, all Canon BCTV lenses do have a zoom rocker, ideal for operating your camera on the shoulder.

The new Canon CJ20ex5B is a 20x wide-telephoto zoom lens, with a pretty generous 5.0-100mm range. If you activate the 2.0x extender, it becomes a 10-200mm glass. On the wide end, the Canon CJ20ex5B has a maximum aperture of F/1.8, which closes to F/2.95 at 100mm.

As I already mentioned previously, the CJ20ex5B supports 4K resolution and is compatible with cameras that support chromatic aberration correction for BT.2020 color gamut.

The CJ20ex5B comes with a 16-bit absolute value encoder that can read out highly accurate positional information of each lens settings – zoom focus and iris without initializing the lens. There are three 20pin connectors on the zoom rocker that enables the lens to read out such information even when using the zoom and focus controllers at the same time. It makes the Canon CJ20ex5B compatible with virtual systems and remote control operations.
