Television production service provider HD BROADCAST has invested in six Leader LV5600 waveform monitors for installation in its new UHD OB2 outside broadcast production vehicle. The instruments will be used to ensure precise matching of incoming signal feeds and to maintain the highest possible video and audio signal quality through to the transmitted output. units were supplied by Leader Europe distribution partner LOGIC Media Solutions.

"UHD gives content producers the ability to deliver a level of picture quality akin to the real-world live experience," says HD BROADCAST MD Constantin Novotny. "The initial challenge production teams face is to ensure every camera is fully aligned and matched to any others being used, not least in terms of colour temperature. Using the LV5600 instruments we can check those parameters quickly and accurately both in terms of signal levels and chroma vectors."

"Each LV5600 also includes a very useful tool for checking that the captured image is in perfect focus. This is especially valuable given the tremendous amount of detail UHD can resolve. The instruments also provide the measurement capabilities needed to handle additional parameters such as high dynamic range and wide colour gamut. Being able to view multiple waveforms on the internal display screen or port these out to an external monitor is another very useful feature. Space-saving is also important issue. Each unit is highly compact which is appreciated even in the largest OB trucks."

Leader's LV5600 is a mains-powered SDI/IP waveform monitor in a half-rack width 3U desktop chassis with a touch-screen front panel display. It provides all the facilities needed to monitor UHD/HD/SD-SDI and video-over-IP seamlessly in a hybrid operating environment. Engineering related features include test pattern generation, eye pattern display, closed caption monitoring, CIE colour chart, high dynamic range measurement, focus assist, customisable screen layout, tally interface, 4K/UHD operation, 10G IP input and 12G-SDI interfaces. SMPTE 2022-6, SMPTE 2022-7 and SMPTE 2110 protocols are all supported. The LV5600 also incorporates Leader's intuitive Cinezone and Cinelite which are familiar to many content production staff.

HD BROADCAST's UHD-2 OB truck is a 16.5 meter triple expanding trailer designed for live outdoor broadcasting and studio-support. The vehicle is configured into four separate control galleries and can accommodate up to 28 production personnel. Production facilities include up to 30 UHD cameras, five UHD HDR shader desks, 2 Sony vision switchers and EVS real-time and slow-motion instant-replay.
