After being rumored for a couple of months, Sony has introduced their latest FE 35mm F1.4 GM lens designed for full-frame E-mount cameras. The newcomer has a compact form factor while weighing in at just 18.5 oz (524 grams). When paired with an APS-C/Super 35 sensor, it becomes a 52.5mm equivalent. Like the other G Master counterparts, the body of the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 is dust and moisture resistant.
The optical design of the lens consists of 14 elements in 10 groups. Additionally, there are two extreme aspherical elements providing edge-to-edge sharpness whereas a separate ED (extra-low dispersion) element minimizes chromatic aberration and purple fringing.
The FE 35mm F1.4 GM also comes with an 11-blade aperture capable of producing smooth and circular bokeh. Furthermore, the lens is fully compatible with Sony’s fast autofocus system using two built-in XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors for precise AF and tracking.
It also has about a 10.5-inch (27cm) close focusing distance and a 0.23x max magnification in autofocus.
The barrel of the FE 35mm F1.4 has a switchable aperture ring for de-clicked stops, focus mode switch, an assignable focus hold button. On the front, you’ll find a 67mm filter thread.
