Sony VENICE 2 seems to be the latest addition to the list of Netflix-Approved cameras that one can officially use to produce content for the streaming platform and expect to be accepted, at least from a technical point. Of course, as with any other camera approved by Netflix, there’s a strict camera production guide with the best practices that you should stick to get compliant.
To recall, the VENICE 2 was announced back in November with a more than impressive list of capabilities and features. The newest CineAlta camera can shoot 8.6K footage at 30 fps and 8.2K in either 17:9 or 16:9 at up to 60 fps. On top, it also has multiple 4K capture resolutions in full-frame, full-frame anamorphic, and Super 35, and there are easily selectable full-frame modes such as full 8.6K30, 8.2K60, 5.8K48, and 5.8K90.
Shooting in RAW in Sony 16-bit X-OCN XT and ST formats while using S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log3, or S-Gamut3/S-Log3 picture profiles is one of the viable options. Recommended capture settings include 8.6K 3:2 at up to 30fps, 8.2K 17:9 Full Frame, 7.6K 16:9 Full Frame, 5.8K 17:9 Super 35, and 5.4K 16:9 Super 35 modes.
Besides Sony RAW formats, ProRes 422 HQ and ProRes 4444 are also accepted. When it comes to high frame rates, you can choose between 60, 75, and 90fps depending on the format and codec you are using.
You can also opt for anamorphic shooting, but in this case, RAW X-OCN XT/ST/LT formats will be your only option.
