Sony has announced new CFexpress Type A TOUGH Memory Cards with an IP57 rating, meaning that they are both dust and water-resistant. They also have a reinforced physical design, which allows them to withstand drops from up to 24.6′ / 7.49m. They have also been rigidity tested to 150 N of force, and can operate in temperatures ranging from 14 to 158°F.
These are Sony’s second CFexpress Type A cards and they now join the CEA-G Series.
KEY FEATURES
- PCIe 3.0 x1 Bus
- Max Read Speed: 800 MB/s
- Max Write Speed: 700 MB/s
- Min Sustained Write Speed: 200 MB/s
- Withstands Drops up to 24.6′

The cards are available in capacities of 960GB or 1.92TB. The existing CEA-G Series is only available in capacities of up to 640GB.
According to Sony they have claimed read speeds of up to 800 MB/s and write speeds of up to 700 MB/s. As they are VPG 200 rated, the sustained write speeds are guaranteed not to drop below 200 MB/s.
Now, this is interesting, because the existing CEA-G Series have minimum sustained write speeds of 400 MB/s. So, it comes down to whether you need more speed or more durability as to what card you choose.
