Sony Japan has announced the PDT-FP1 Portable Data Transmitter. The PDT-FP1 is a 5G-compatible, high-speed, low-latency video transmission device that can send video or photos to an FTP server or other streaming platforms.

By utilizing an unique antenna structure the PDT-FP1 supports a wide range of bands including the 5G millimeter wave band, Sub6 communication, standalone 5G communication, and local 5G.

In addition to a physical SIM card that can be inserted, it also features dual SIM functionality so you can use an eSIM as well. By utilizing a Network Visualizer, users can visually check the communication status to see if data communication is being interrupted during uploading or downloading.

You can use a wired connection to connect the PDT-FP1 unit and a compatible Sony camera. By simply using a cable you import photos and videos and then have them automatically transfer the data to a specified FTP server or cloud service provided by Sony. You can also use its to stream directly to platforms such as YouTube.

The PDT-FP1 device is equipped with a 6.1-inch display, but you can also use Sony applications such as Transfer & Tagging, the Creators’ App, and Creators’ App for Enterprise to check the transfer status even while shooting.

The PDT-FP1 is equipped with a LAN terminal, USB Type-C , and a full-sized HDMI. After connecting with a Sony camera. In addition to using the USB Type-C for charging, you can also transfer data from the camera and do live streaming while supplying external power.

The HDMI input supports the following resolutions and frame rates:

  • YCbCr 4:4:4/4:2:2/RGB> 3840×2160 (60p/50p/30p/25p/24p
  • YCbCr 4:4:4/4:2:2/RGB> 1920×1080 (60p/50p/30p/25p/24p)
  • 1280×720(60p/ 50p/30p/25p/24p)
  • 720×480 (60p)
  • 720×576 (50p)
  • 640×480 (60p)

You can mount the PDT-FP1 to a camera using the 1/4-20″ receptor installed on the back.

The PDT-FP1 weighs 308g and it has physical dimensions of 170mm x 80mm x 26.6mm. It uses an Android OS and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform.

You can put in a microSD/microSDHC/microSDXC card with up to 1TB of capacity.

The newly developed built-in cooling fan and heat sink is claimed to ensure high performance even under high load conditions and prevent heat loss even in environments up to 40 degrees celsius.

The casing can efficiently dissipate internal heat, and an internal cooling fan can be set to auto (balanced), cooling priority, and silent priority depending on the shooting conditions.
