The Tiffen Company adds the new Glow Series to its line of diffusion effects lens filters. Paired with digital cameras, Soft Glow, Black Soft Glow, and Golden Glow filters are designed to maintain contrast for a natural appearance and take away the sharpness and sterility associated with a digital look—while producing unique and pleasing highlights.
With eight grades, each set lets the cinematographer sprinkle a hint of halation with lighter strengths while heavier strengths provide a more pronounced effect, emitting a progressive, gentle glow from light sources. All the while, black tones remain deep, and whites stay clean. The versatile line offers three different variations each made to benefit smooth skin-tones and keep environments looking real and tangible, while adding a hint of atmosphere.
Clean and subtle, the series flagship Soft Glow filter works its magic on subjects, landscapes and highlights in gentle degrees of precise application to the image. Offering similar benefits, the Black Soft Glows are also especially useful to help hold deep, dark areas of the frame without shifting colors. The Golden Glow's secret weapon is a slight warming effect, especially useful when it comes to specular highlights. With 8 progressive strengths a filmmaker can add a subtle or distinct effect to halation and overall warming.
Each Glow filter type comes in standard MPTV as well as Screw-in and Magnetic sizes: 4x4, 6.6x6.6, 4x5.65, 39mm, 49mm, 52mm, 55mm, 58mm, 62mm, 67mm, 72mm, 77mm, 82mm in a choice of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 densities. Special sizes and strengths are available upon request.
Like the rest of Tiffen’s Emmy & Academy Award-winning filters, Tiffen Glow Filters are crafted in the USA with Water White glass. To promote long life, only Tiffen filters are manufactured using the exclusive Colorcore Technology process that laminates the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, then grinds and polishes them to a precise tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch flatness.
