Sony is expanding its lineup of professional monitors with the all-new 17-inch BVM-E171 and 25-inch BVM-E251 TRIMASTER EL™ OLED HD master monitors, successors to its award-winning BVM-E series of professional OLED monitors. The HD master monitors are designed for extreme accuracy and stability, delivering outstanding performance.

“By listening to the needs of those involved in the production industry, Sony is continually incorporating new and better features that the content creation market is seeking,” said Gary Mandle, Senior Product Manager for Professional Displays. “Sony’s BVM-E171 and BVM-E251 master monitors answer the demands of the latest production techniques in post and on set.”

Replacing the current BVM-E170A and BVM-E250A monitors, the new HD master monitors are targeted largely at content creation professionals including those in broadcast, post-production and rental houses, as well as for research and development purposes for government, enterprise and laboratory.

Maintaining the existing superb features and supporting formats that Sony’s BVM-E series possess, the latest HD monitors are enhanced with the following new features:

ITU-R BT.2020 color space

As the content creation market embraces 4K production, the new HD monitors will emulate ITU-R BT.2020 color space, the broadcasting standard for Ultra HD, for accurate color reproduction. Sony’s BVM-E171 and BVM-E251 are ideal for critical color evaluation in cinema and live productions which require both ITU-R BT709 and DCI color spaces. Further, the HD monitors are a viable solution for broadcasters who use 4K/HD simultaneous broadcasting systems, offering superb picture quality while resolving cost and space constraints.

Enhanced options of color space and EOTFs

The monitors are enhanced to include S-Gamut/S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.cine. Further, they are also equipped with S-Log 3 and S-Log2 in SDR. The new S-Log 3(SDR) feature can display up to approximately 1500% by contrast adjustment in the range of 250cd/m2.

Flicker-free mode

The OLED panel of the new HD monitors possesses superb quick response and scan-driving performance, delivering stunning picture quality with virtually no motion blur. To eliminate possible flicker when a low frequency signal is displayed (24p, 24PsF 50i etc.), the BVM-E171 and BVM-E251 are equipped with flicker-free mode.

Sony’s BVM-E171 and BVM-E251 are planned to be available in January 2017.
