Video Devices have announced the availability of new firmware for the Pix-E5 recorder, updating it to v1.10 and bringing the following new features:
- 6G-SDI to enable 4K recording over a single SDI cable at up to 30 fps
- 3:2 pulldown removal option
- High frame rate recording up to 1080p120 over HDMI
- Support for external timecode via 3.5mm line inputs and HDMI
- 4:3 anamorphic desqueeze for the LCD and outputs
- LUTs can be enabled or disabled on the SDI output
- Playback shuttle controls: frame-by-frame jog, shuttle (from 1/8x to 32x), fast forward and rewind at 2x and 16x speeds
- Select next or previous recorded file from Stop by pressing Rewind or Fast Forward soft key.
- Peaking and zebras can now be switched on at the same time
There’s a lot in there that looks useful – to the point where it’s actually a bit surprising Video Devices shipped the Pix-E without the functionality! Still, it’s great to see a manufacturer continuing to support their products and adding features after launch: the new anamorphic desqueeze will give Panasonic GH4 users another external recording option, and the ability to take a single SDI 4K feed will be helpful for Blackmagic URSA shooters.
The firmware is available to download from the Video Devices website now.
