ATEME and Twentieth Century Fox have worked on development of the TITAN Software Transcoder to enable distribution of some of the first movies for home viewing in Ultra HD with High Dynamic Range, beginning on 18 July.
This collaboration has resulted in very high picture quality and true-to-life colours, aiming to emulate a theatrical experience for consumers at home. The developers feel that UHD with HDR will affect the future direction of entertainment production and delivery, as indicated by the successful development of the TITAN Software Transcoder.
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has released «Life of Pi» and «Exodus: Gods and Kings» in UHD with HDR, and furthermore announced earlier in the year that all of their future Twentieth Century Fox theatrical releases will be finished in UHD. Fox also supplied clips produced in UHD with HDR from both of these films to Samsung to help demonstrate their UHD TV sets at the CES in January.
The chief technology officer of Twentieth Century Fox, Hanno Basse, is the president of the UHD Alliance. «Twentieth Century Fox and ATEME have fine-tuned the TITAN transcoder and added custom functionality,» he said. «As the specifications and standards evolve, ATEME’s flexibility in modifying and implementing new tools combined with TITAN’s high video quality, contributed to bringing a new viewing experience to market.»
TITAN is multi-codec and format video transcoding software for live, OTT and file mezzanine, VOD, post-production, playout and archive applications, based on the ATEME STREAM compression engine, puts out high video quality at minimum bitrates with accelerated parallel processing. TITAN can be configured and integrated into existing workflows, including integration with DRM, conditional access and digital ad insertion. TITAN incorporates functions for 24/7 automation and workflow and can be deployed on-premises, in the cloud or both.
