Zeiss has completed its family of Supreme Cinema Lenses by announcing a new 15mm T1.8 prime lens. The newcomer rounds out the collection, which ranges from 15mm-200mm with a maximum speed of T2.0. That’s a fast family of glass.

“This 15 mm lens is the final piece of the puzzle that many cinematographers have been waiting for,” reported Christophe Casenave, responsible for cinematography products at ZEISS. By adding the 15-millimeter lens, we are now making the Supreme Primes even more attractive to all users, providing greater creativity when using Super 35 or Full Frame cameras and more.”

Not only is the Zeiss Supreme line of prime cine lenses fast, but flexible too. The Supreme line works with a vast array of image processors from Super 35mm to full-frame, and beyond to FF+. The lenses are compatible with mainstream camera rigs including the Sony Venice (2), the ARRI Alexa (Mini) LF, or the RED Monstro, and can be used in a wide variety of shooting situations.

Designed with standard focus and iris ring positioning, the 15mm Supreme will be comfortable on any camera for a cinematographer and camera assistant to work without even looking. The stock 95mm front diameter also means that any filter or camera lens accessory is fast and easy to change out.

The Zeiss Supreme Cine Lens 16 iris blade design also includes a very smooth transition between in-focus and out-of-focus areas, which has been the calling card for ZEISS cine lenses, adding richer texture and greater depth to the image.

Digital connections through Zeiss’ proprietary eXtended Data technology provide the Cooke/i standard of frame-accurate information about focal length, focusing distance, T-stop, and depth-of-field. Zeiss Distortion and Lens Shading data is also recorded for use in post-production.

The ZEISS Supreme Prime lenses are also equipped with an easy-to-operate, interchangeable mount system, which enables a quick change from PL-mount to LPL-mount or EF-mount. Each of the three mounts has an electrical interface for transferring ZEISS eXtended Data to the camera.

Recent films shot on the Supreme line include Netflix’ The Adam Project, the thriller The Outfit, and the upcoming sequel to Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 2. The Zeiss cine lens family is also being used for the series Das Boot, on Sky.
