Last week Sony announced they would not be attending NAB 2021, and as predicted the others would follow suit. Panasonic make a decision withdraws from NAB 2021 too. This leaves Canon and Blackmagic Design the last of the big camera manufacturers to announce their departure from the trade show.
“After careful consideration of several key factors impacting the show, including the current conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the decision not to attend the event in Las Vegas.”, said Carter Hoskins – Director, Professional Imaging Panasonic
“In place of participating in person, we’re planning to meet and connect with our valued customers via our digital platforms where we look forward to sharing our exciting announcements. We are confident a digital experience will be effective, similar to events we’ve hosted over the last 18 months.”
NAB is a big show that caters to broadcast stations and live productions for the most part. Live trucks, Sat trucks and large switchers and infrastructure are all about broadcast. Without the camera companies, it will make going to the show a tough decision for many.
Lighting, editing, and sound products are also in our wheelhouse. and I do feel many will be at the show since they are much smaller and have smaller booths with fewer people to manage. It’s a tough decision for everyone, but safety has to come first.
