VI Rental buys up six Panasonic VariCam LTs

VI Rental in Bristol has taken delivery of six VariCam LT camcorders for use in natural history and mainstream production, giving them the largest fleet in the UK. The company has bought six of the handheld camcorders, capable of shooting in both 4K (4096 x 2160) and UHD (3840 x 2160).

     
     
 
FUJINON Cabrio lens relied on for Live 4K broadcast of Canada’s iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards

Bell Media, one of Canada’s premier multimedia companies, produced a live-to-air UHD broadcast of the iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards (MMVAs) in downtown Toronto in June, with an extensive set up that included a 4K OB truck from Dome Productions. Along with the 4K truck from Dome, the outdoor event employed two audio mobile trucks from Broadcast Audio Services (BAS) and Livewire Remote Recorders, an on-site broadcast control room and two audio mixing rooms. Bell Media was set on a wide-angle look but didn’t want the barrel distortion common with 2/3” sensor wide-angle lenses, so they turned to the PL 14-35mm Cabrio lens from the FUJIFILM Optical Devices Division.

     
     
 
Finnish broadcaster YLE counts on Lectrosonics for 2016 Summer Games

Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio Oy (YLE), who has served as a broadcast partner in Finland for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for many years, has acquired the media rights to the Summer Games in Rio in 2016. YLE will provide over 300 hours of coverage on it’s free-to-air television channels in Finland and will also broadcast the events across a range of additional platforms including the internet, mobile and radio. As they have for past Games in other cities including Vancouver, London, and Sochi, YLE will rely upon Lectrosonics Digital Hybrid Wireless technology, including SRC dual channel slot mount receivers, SSM micro belt pack transmitters and HHa handheld transmitters for this year’s events in Brazil.

Sony intros second gen OLED master monitor

The second generation of Sony’s 30in BVM-X300 OLED master monitor promises users more flexibility and more features for both HDR and 4K production. Starting in October 2016, the new (and as yet unpriced) version of the BVM-X300 will feature updated Version 2 firmware, new hardware with an HDMI input for easy connection to cameras or Blu-ray players, and a second 3G/HD-SDI 4K input for simpler system integration.

     
     
 
FUJIFILM will provide technical support on site in Rio

The Optical Devices Division of FUJIFILM will provide full on-site technical support for Fujinon lenses in Rio de Janeiro from August 3rd through August 22nd. Engineers from the Fujifilm’s American, European and Japanese branches will be on hand and within service agent Camera 2’s Rio facility. The events in Rio begin on Friday, August 5th and run through Sunday, August 21st.
