5 factors to make the move broadcast operations to the cloud

The broadcast industry is notable for several things, a major one being that new technology adoption typically comes with a transition phase. Today, this is evident in the transition from SDI to IP and from on-prem, server-based media processing to using cloud-native services for that purpose. The cloud transition must consider the driving factors enabling the transition, the massive size of media files, mandatory reliability and high quality, and it must consider the fact that media companies do not, and in many cases, cannot be tied to a single cloud provider.

     
     
 
LiveU sold to investment firm Carlyle

LiveU has been sold for the second time in as many years, after being acquired by global investment firm Carlyle. Carlyle specialises in partnering with technology businesses, and already has investments in Disguise, NEP, The Foundry, Vubiquity, BTI Studios and The Mill. Details of the transaction have not been revealed. Equity for the investment will be provided by Carlyle Europe Technology Partners (CETP) IV, a fund that invests in middle market technology-focused opportunities in Europe and the US.

     
     
 
XenData Announces Synced Private Cloud Archives

Data storage solution provider has launched an object storage S3 interface for its entire range of on-premise active archives that provide long-term secure storage on LTO data tape cartridges. The launch transforms the XenData archive systems into private cloud data repositories that compete with public cloud storage services such as AWS Glacier and the Archive Tier of Azure object storage. AJA Announces New openGear Fiber to 12G-SDI Converters

AJA Video Systems has expanded its lineup of openGear compatible 12G-SDI Fiber Converters with a pair of new OG-FiDO 12G cards for receiving signals from LC Fiber or ST Fiber and converting those signals to baseband 12G-SDI. OG-FiDO-R-12G-ST is a Fiber receiver that supports single-channel conversion from ST Fiber to 12G-SDI, and OG-FiDO-2R-12G offers dual-channel conversion from LC Fiber to 12G-SDI. Both new models receive 12G-SDI signals from standard Fiber video sources, including AJA FiDO Mini-Converters.
